What is the 200G QSFP-DD/QSFP56 Optical Transceiver?

200G QSFP-DD/QSFP56 optical transceiver is a high-speed network transmission device designed for 200G Ethernet interconnection. It uses PAM4 modulation technology and can achieve transmission at different distances on single-mode or multi-mode optical fibers. This QSFP-DD/QSFP56 optical transceiver has 4 independent transmit and receive optical signal channels, and the transmission rate of each channel is 50G, thus achieving a total transmission rate of 200G. In this way, more data can be transmitted on existing optical fibers, which is more suitable for use in ultra-large-scale data center networks. According to different transmission distances, 200G QSFP56 fiber module is divided into multiple types, such as QSFP56 SR, DR, FR, LR, etc., to adapt to different network requirements and environments. For example, 200G QSFP56 SR4 is suitable for short-distance transmission, while 200G QSFP56 LR4 is suitable for long-distance transmission.

Comparison of 200G QSFP56 and 200G QSFP-DD Optical Transceiver

Currently, there are two main types of 200G optical transceivers: 200G QSFP56 optical module and 200G QSFP-DD optic transceiver.

200G QSFP56 optical transceiver is a compact module uses PAM4 modulation technology, which supports four 50G channels. QSFP56 optical transceiver can achieve higher network speeds compared to previous iterations like QSFP+ and QSFP28 optical transceiver. The QSFP56 ethernet transceiver offering backward compatibility with QSFP28 network transceiver ports and is suitable for applications where compatibility with QSFP28 optical transceiver is desired.

200G QSFP-DD optical transceiver is referred to as "double-density" because it supports double the number of high-speed electrical interfaces compared to standard QSFP28 optical transceiver. QSFP-DD fiber transceiver can support data rates of up to 25Gx8 (channels) using NRZ (Non-Return-to-Zero) modulation technology, enabling 200G network transmission.
