OFNR (Fiber Optic, Insulation, Riser) is used in riser applications. These are spaces in a building that pass through pathways between floors, in a vertical cabling. They are carefully designed to prevent a fire from spreading from one floor to another within a building.
OFNP (optical fiber, nonconductive, plenum) is used for boost applications. They are used inside the buildings, suitable for the area between the ceiling and the floor above it to allow space for air circulation. They have the highest grade of flame retardant and emit very little smoke during combustion. The non-conductive elements in OFNPs mean that they do not contain conductive components.
